First Aid Cover provided a fleet of ambulances and rapid response vehicles for a major 10k run in London with over approximately 20,000 runners and thousands of spectators. Our mobile medical support ensured patient safety across the course and seamless hospital transfer capability where required.
The Challenge
The organiser needed mobile medical cover for a large volume of runners of all abilities across a large area with restricted road access. Ambulances had to be positioned strategically while maintaining rapid response capability for both runners and spectators.
Our Approach
We carried out a full route risk assessment and deployed a combination of ambulances, 4x4s, and rapid response cars. GPS tracking allowed central event control to monitor vehicle locations in real time and dispatch the nearest unit to incidents. All CQC partner ambulances were equipped with advanced life support equipment, and all ambulances were staffed with by paramedics or pre – hospital care nurses. Rapid response cars were crewed with either advanced paramedics or pre – hospital doctors. Coordination with London Ambulance Service on site representatives ensured smooth transfers when needed.
Results
Two cardiac arrest successfully resuscitated with advanced clinicians on scene within minutes.
The vast majority of patients were treated and safely discharged without hospital transfer.
Every response unit staffed by advanced paramedics, doctors, or pre hospital care nurses.
Mobile units and ambulances covered the full course for runners and spectators.
Direct coordination with London Ambulance Service ensured smooth and immediate hospital handover.
